QTP using Excel

I have recorded a flow using UFT 11.51 and datatable i have pointed to excel i created with multiple rows. However when i try to play the script it was failing to recognize some columns and when i raised a ticket with HP support he mentioned that inorder to prepare datasheet i need to use QTP data table editor and mentioned that importing data from microsoft excel might create issues.

Further he pointed that UFT Data table editor pane uses a third party tool and though it saves the files in .xls, it is not similar to microsoft excel.

Is this true? So the only way to prepare data is using UFT Data table editor pane?

Are you importing from Excel into the datatable or exporting data into Excel? To the best of my knowledge, the Excel file must be .xls and not .xlsx . I have never had a problem scripting in QTP/UFT and writing to and saving an Excel .xls file.
