How to use Excel sheet in the back end?

I would like to use Excel sheet for entering input to QTP?
I would also like to use SQL to extract the right info from the excel sheet? I have been try to work on this for long.I would like to know how to use OR effectively.I have always done Descriptive scripting only.
Kindly help me on this with effective examples.

not sure what you mean by this as SQL is a query language which is used to query and retrieve data from DB's like Oracle, MS Access etc
