This post is for those who are looking to migrate their existing WinRunner scripts to QTP. We know that, it’s a real pain if we try to mirror WinRunner scripts to QTP from scratch. The amount of manual labour (to automate –see the irony!) that you may require might not be worth it. Having said that, now that HP is phasing out WinRunner and is putting all efforts on QTP you have no option left but to migrate them as soon as possible. But how can you do this in the most efficient way?
Enter Win-Quick .
WinQuick is a comprehensive HP WinRunner to QuickTest Pro migration platform that converts over 90% of the WinRunner code to QTP automagically. It is the fastest, most comprehensive and cost effective technology to re-architect and migrate WinRunner based code and artifacts to QTP.
Their site claims that they are the “The only validated & HP approved solution to migrate WinRunner to QTP”. Surely that must be doing something right. Here are some of the important features I extracted from their detailed FAQ’s.
- Supports all the application user interfaces that WinRunner and QTP support together. These include Java, Web, VB, ActiveX, TE, Oracle, Windows and others.
- This is not a licensed tool but a service to provide a complete end-to-end solution. Over 80% of the migration happens automatically by the tool and you only pay for the manual component of the work.
- Available across the globe.
- Doesn’t provide a trial version. They can provide you with a free demo through this request form.
Going through all this, the solution looks promising. Do let me know your experience through the comments below, if you are going to try/have tried this service.
Disclaimer: Guys I haven’t tried it myself so don’t blame me if something goes wrong 🙂
WinRunner customers are not satisfied with an 80% solution that only cuts the work in half compared to manual conversion/rewrite…that is far short of “automagic”.
Interoperate was recently approached about the problem. In conjunction with one of the world’s largest WinRunner customers, we developed WR2QTP, a superior solution that automates 95%+ of the WinRunner to QTP task.
We are partnered with Orasi, the 2009 HP Software support partner of the year, and offer a no-charge Proof of Concept for up to 25,000 lines of WR script code.

@Jim: Thanks for dropping by.
Good to hear we are getting more players in this field. As they say healthy competition is always good.
Yes it is still there.
As I have said, HP is phasing out WinRunner and is focussing its development efforts on QTP, though you can run Winrunner from QTP you might not be able to make full advantage of the new features that are coming in. Moreover you’d need two tools on the same machine to run one from the other.
Doesn’t QTP have the option of calling existing WR scripts within a QTP script? Or has that functionality been removed. That’s the path I’ve been thinking of going if the need ever did arise.
