Anna,

Alt F4 is used by Microsoft as a general shortcut to close any application. So, it would close QTP completely.

When you use F4, make sure that you activate QTP first. To do that click on QTP in Task bar and press F4 right after, or you can also use Alt+Tab to activate QTP.
