QTP 9.x series object repository does not work like the earlier versions. By default new objects are stored in local object repository which can then later be copied to a shared repository depending upon your requirement.
You can learn more about it in QTP help

thanks!
I learnt today that shared OR can be saved through the OR manager, if using the navigate & learn menu. or as you wrote by coping a local OR.
