Why do we need dot net framework as a pre-requisite for installing qtp?

I am new to QTP and i tried installing QTP on my computer. I just figured out that QTP requires DOT NET FRAMEWORK as a pre-requisite. Can someone explain me the reason behind it?

This is a dated yet relevant and important question.

Not only QTP but there are several programs that may require dot net framework to be installed on your machine. Many Desktops programs are written in C# , .NET which reference the libraries inside DOT net framework and thus require the framework to be installed.
