And I Thought I knew QTP is the title of a new book by Tarun Lalwani.
I knew this was a different book as soon as I laid my hand on the review copy – an unusual square shaped technical book. I read a lot of technical and non-technical stuff but this was the first technical book which started off in a humorous & casual tone, with a character NURAT narrating his experiences.
The author will take proper nouns and twist them so much that it may make you chuckle at times – especially if you’re someone who is conversant with the services, stores and geography of India. In this process, he didn’t spare his own name either.
The book with its unique style is a complete reference for QTP interview questions and answers. While his previous book –QTP Unplugged– was created as a QTP Guide having sections with chapters on various topics, this book is written more like a novel involving various fictional -witty- characters. The protagonist is a next door guy who has his share of fears, apprehensions but is smart enough to overcome the ~294 pages grueling done by his interviewers and brave enough to introspect –And I Thought I knew QTP.
Without giving much away I can say this is a comprehensive novel on QTP interview questions and answers. I like the fact that in between technical stuff, the author has smartly coupled behavioral aspects of an interview on how to tackle difficult situations.
The only complaint I have with this book is that it will make a job of QTP interviewers more difficult since any question that we ought to ask has been covered in this book. 🙂
I think apart from QTP learning, this book provides a lesson for technical book writers on how to make technical books less boring.

Great ! Nothing better to learn how to use QTP than real life experience.
Thanks Tarun for these Wonderful book. After reading it, it feels like you don’t have anything left in QTP to learn:). It covers almost everything(per my knowledge).

I would like to learn more on descriptive programming. Also, I would like to know how to automate an iOS applications.
i have been following qtp Unplugged for 1 year and yes it actually teaches you qtp in different and easy way. One thing which should be added to every edition of QTP book by Tarun should be containing a dedicated chappter for QTP certification info ( contents can be active and de-active versions of certification , the fee structure , the links to prometric centre , available timings info , experience sharing of people who got the certification etc ). 2nd most important thing is creating an account at HP for qtp downloads is something which we usually forget , so there must be a default login username password provided by (Tarun & learnqtp) to download the various qtp versions. Best of luck guys , looking foward to swallow “And I thought I knew QTP”.
QTP Unplugged is best book to learn QTP from top to bottom… I would like to gin more knowledge in ‘XML Parsing in QTP Using XMLUtil ‘ Preety sure that ‘And I Thought I knew QTP’ will enhance my QTP knowledge… So Tarun waiting to become one of the lucky 5 ppl…!!

I want to learn more about framework designing.
I want to learn more on automating PDF with QTP..like
1) Reading PDF content
2) Comparing two PDF’s etc
also want to learn as How can we handle Security testing with QTP.
The only reason to buy Tarun’s book is because no one else has written a truly usefull book for QTP. No one has written a usefull book for QTP, because QTP is developer unfriendly, and a bloated memory hog of an application that crashes too often, is far too slow with a predisposition to be one of the last Windows apps that can lock up a processor and actually force a hard reboo. It really is not that great of a piece of software. My guess ist that anyone who can be taken seriously as a technical author is not willing to commit to a book for software that is such an embarassment the way QTP is.
Beyond this, Tarun’s last book was filled with gramatical and technical errors. Why would this new book be expected to be any better?
I’d like to learn more re Web Services testing using QTP
Books has great reviews and would love to read it to solidfy the why behind strategies and curious to learn what I dont know about QTP.
I am anxiously waiting for the release of this book as the title itself hooks the reader. I am very grateful to Tarun for giving such a excellent book on QTP and thereby invoking my interest.
Learn QTP is a very useful book for beginners as well as experts.
I have read ‘QTP Unplugged’ by Tarun. After reading that I was considering that I knew everything about QTP but when I heard that Tarun is coming with new book which named as ‘And I thought I knew QTP’, so I was wondering that what else is remaining in QTP now which is not covered in previous book. So I am now quite curious and desperate to read this new book to know that what I didn’t know about QTP?
UGH, I read the “preview” on Amazon. If I don’t win this book, I am going to have to buy it – Just to find out if he got the email or not.
THANKS

I want to learn about QTP frameworks.
I think this will reduce the learning cost and institutions specially in HYDERABAD
Can a framework or model be designed tto introduce automation from day one using QTP?
I worked in some aspects of QTP such as parameterization, but I want to be well versed in all aspects such as Framework, DP and all advanced topics. I hope this book changes me “I Thought I knew QTP” zone to “I know QTP” zone.
I like Taruns QTP unplugged very much. He covers DP very well. I have gone through Preview of book. It’s great. Its good to understand in question answer format. Also will help me for QTP Certification Preparation.
QTP Unplugged was my entry point to the world of QTP. I would like to know and explore on the automation using QTP on mobile devices and more on framework best practices
Is it possible to design automation framework at free will without worrying about tools and then bring QTP in picture? or I will need to design framework keeping in mind that the tool going to be used is QTP?
Would like to know how QTP can help in designing (not implementing) various automation frameworks. Or is it like that looking at QTP features the framework would need to be designed bottom up.
It would be good if I design the framework at free will without worrying about my tools and then bring in QTP in picture. This helps in keeping my framework and model robust.
I would love to know more on QTP with Web 2.0 add-in.
This book really sounds interesting.. Learning with fun.. what a concept. Will surely like to check if I really know QTP or… “And I Thought I knew QTP..!” 🙂
I feel any book by Mr.Tarun will be good and i would like to thank Ankur Jain
Nice review on the book and appears quite interesting to see such an innovative concept in technical books.
One aspect of QTP that I would like to learn more is about Handling errors in external systems (OS, AUT, Browser etc). In short more about Recovery scenarios.
Thanks,
