QTP support for Silverlight, AJAX, GWT, Dojo, YUI now available

Reading this article from Roi Carmel, HP, prompted me to write a post. There has been no out-of-the-box support for most of the Microsoft Silverlight support in QTP/UFT Web2.0 technologies by any of the tools providers out there. Looks like HP has decided to go full force into it and capture all the more commercial functional testing tools market that was already dominated by them.

**HP is now planning to release a Web2.0 pack. The highlights of which will be:

  1. Making Web-Extensibility easier to use : Good to know HP acknowledge this fact. I have not seen much happening around this area, though it has been good 2+ yrs (the release of v9.5) since they made extensibility available. It will be a framework by the name Extensibility Accelerator (EA).AJAX support in QTP/UFT
  2. Tighter support for Web2.0 apps : Till now, QTP had a Flex addin (by Adobe), now QTP is going to support Silverlight and AJAX apps.
  3. Better Object recognition and record/replay capabilities for Web 2.0 apps

** Update: HP has already released the patch on top of QTP 10.0  This patch provides support for Silverlight 2-3 (under .NET addin),  and various toolkits – like AJAX, Google Web Toolkit (GWT), Dojo Toolkit, and Yahoo User Interface- under Web Extensibility. Once you have the Extensibility Accelerator installed, it can be seen under Tools menu option on QTP’s IDE.

The patch is released in two flavors:

  1. Web 2.0 Feature Pack with PreRequisites – In case you do not have MS Studio 2008 SP1 and .NET framework
  2. Web 2.0 Feature Pack without PreRequisites – In case you already have the above two softwares installed.

    I have installed UFT 11.5 and trying to spy my Login window but it is not identifying all the objects(Check box,dropdown, button) present in the window instead identifying Only Window…….
    One of its Window Property is
    (Name)regexpwndclass — SunAwtFrame(Value)

    Can you please help me on this…

    @Sudar It is mostly an issue with QTP not supporting the latest versions of Dojo, hence you might wish to write a wrapper function to handle these dojo controls.

    I have a application developed in Dojo components. I am using QTP11 when recording script weblist reconized as wededit (what ever selected from weblist is not showing up in the recorded script) and when I run the script, script is not working. DO I need any ADD IN. If needed where can I find software…Please help me.

    I am getting one error during mapping the control in Extensibility Accelerator of Smart GWT control.

    Error “The controls you selected do not have enough properties in common to create a meaningful rule.”

    Can you please help me to make the thing correct?

    I need to work on dojo with QTP . From above it appears I will need to install Web 2.0 Feature Pack with PreRequisites – In case you do not have MS Studio 2008 SP1 and .NET framework

    but When I go to Hp site it asks me for contract .

    Is there any other get this software ?

    Hi ankur,

    My application is developed on “Component one 3rdparty tools like DataGrid,FlexiGrid”. I am using Qtp11, but we are unable to identify objects of Datagrid and Flexi grid. Is there any paths from Hp or solution/workaround?

    Hi , Is there any work around for the telerick controls, I am using QTP Ver 10, but it is not recording the Telerick controls used controls like drop down , calendar control.

    Hi,
    I have tried capturing objects in silverlight with QTP. All the objects are captured correctly except the list boxes which are identified as ToggleDropDown… I m unable to select any value from the list as the object type captured is not supporting relevant functions…
    Any ideas on this…

    Is there any patches for “Silver light componentone Flex Grid”? our project fully developed on “Silver light componentone Flex Grid”. While I am trying to identify objects in grid, all objects(Cell,Link,Combobox etc..) identified as “SlvObject”. Is there any solution/Patches for this?

    @hari prakash; Yes, it is possible to hide QTP during execution(you’ll need to run your test in batch mode), but as far I know this is not the for AUT (NB: QTP is UI automation tool, thus it needs UI to execute. just quick question can you operate an application without see it?)

    Really informative. I Could see that EA support Silver light version from 2 to 3. What about Silver Light 4? Will QTP 10.0 supports that.

    I am not sure that I understand what exactly I need to do to get AJAX controls to be recordable in QTP. I have several tests for different applications that all have javascript and AJAX in them and that will not record/run correctly. You mention an Extensibility Accelerator, do I need to get that from somewhere for this to work?

    I am trying to install the Web 2.0 Feature Pack. The Extensibility Accelerator installs fine, but for the Web 2.0 Toolkit and the Silverlight Testing support I get the error: “Installation Failed”. Can any body help me out by knowing the reson.

    Hi Gurus,
    I have installed Web 2.0 Feature Pack. I am able to recognize buttons, edit box, radio buttons. But grids are showing up as normal slvobject. Can some one help me in this regard.
